The Growing Home Campaign
The Growing Home Campaign, a national award-winning tree-planting program for homeowners, begins its fourth year this spring. Regional expansion of the program to Baltimore County, Baltimore City and Harford County will enable more than 1.6 million residents to learn about selecting and planting trees to beautify their properties, save money and help the environment.
The program is a public-private partnership between the jurisdictions, 50 local retail nurseries and garden centers, and homeowners to increase the region's tree canopy by offering homeowners education about planting trees and a cash incentive -- the $10 Growing Home Tree Coupon redeemable toward the purchase of a qualifying tree with a retail value of at least $25.
Homeowners can obtain the $10 tree coupon from the Growing Home brochure, which is widely available at county and city facilities, and the Growing Home Campaign Web site, www.growinghome.info. Information about the value of adding trees to one's property and in existing neighborhoods, guidance about site considerations and tree species selection, and instructions about tree planting and maintenance are available in the brochure and at the Web site.
The Growing Home Campaign's goal is to plant 10,000 trees on residential land in the Baltimore region. Studies show that the best opportunities to increase the urban tree canopy in the area are available on private land.
Educational material and coordination for the campaign are funded in part by a Chesapeake Bay Program Small Watershed Grant. The campaign is coordinated by Baltimore County Department of Environmental Protection and Resource Management. Information: www.growinghome.info or call Diana Cohen, 410-887-4488 ext 287.

Town Meeting
State Sen. James Brochin is hosting a Town Meeting for all Loch Raven-area residents at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 13 in the cafeteria of Pleasant Plains Elementary School.
The senator has asked Baltimore County's police chief and representatives of Code Enforcement to attend to address community concerns.
Community Decorations
We owe Mary Ellen McLaughlin our thanks for decorating the monuments and the street signs in the community again this year. The wreaths and ribbon add a festive holiday touch to the neighborhood.
In addition to Mary Ellen McLaughlin, we should thank Renay Tyler and her sons and Chip and Karen Welsh for their time and effort decorating on Ryegate and Brook Meadow for the holidays.
Chatterleigh Community Covenants
The Chatterleigh Community Association has covenants that run with the land and are binding (they can be legally enforced) regardless of whether you knew they existed when you purchased your home and regardless of whether you pay your dues. To avoid unecessary hassle and hard feelings, please request a copy of the covenants for your neighborhood and submit a completed Covenants Review Application before starting any fence, home addition or structure on your property. This process is to protect all home owners and our property values. Thank you for your understanding. Covenants may be requested from our Covenants Team leader, Charly Gibbons, at (410) 583-2276 or charly1129@comcast.net.

These dues enable us to maintain our monuments and common areas, print and send special mailings to the community, send out our quarterly newsletters, annual directory and much more. To learn more about how the dues are used, contact the Urgent Response Email Network at chatterleighassociation@hotmail.com. To pay your voluntary dues, send a check made out to "The Chatterleigh Association, Inc." to our treasurer, Charly Gibbons, P.O. Box 42243, Baltimore, MD 21284-2243.
